What to Expect When You’re Expecting Feedback
Whether by phone call, email or snail-mail, you will receive a response to your submission. It’s never easy to wait, and it can be even harder to get the news.
Submissions have three possible outcomes:
- Acceptance
- Request for resubmission with revisions
- Rejection
Of the three, acceptance is the rarest. Acceptance rates at journals vary a great deal, and prestigious journals often accept fewer than 10 percent of the submitted manuscripts.
The second outcome, for revisions and resubmission, is a positive sign, even though it means more work with no guarantee of a good outcome. Revisions, which we’ll examine later in this module, create the opportunity to rethink the key points of your paper and reshape it into something much stronger.
