Manuscript Checklist
As a safeguard, do one last inspection before you send in your final manuscript.15 Check this list to make sure
- The name of the editor and journal title are spelled correctly in the cover letter and other correspondence
- The required number of clean copies of the manuscript are included (if submitted by snail-mail)
- The title page and running title follow the requested format
- The full names, affiliations, qualifications, and contact information are included for each author
- Author names are removed from all pages after the title page if there is a blind review process
- The abstract adheres to the requirements for format and length
- Keywords are included (if required)
- The manuscript does not exceed the recommended length
- The manuscript follows the required format for organization, layout, placement of tables and figures, appendices, and references
- Citations and references are complete and in the correct style
- There is an entry in the reference list for every work cited in the manuscript, and every item in the reference list is cited in the text of the paper.
- Required attachments are included:
- Acknowledgements, e.g., source of funding
- Authors’ signatures and statement of contributorship (who did what)
- Copyright form signed by all authors
- Statement on conflicts of interest
- Consent form(s) for use of copyrighted materials
- Documentation of “personal communications”
- Evidence of “in press” citations, e.g., copy of acceptance letter from the publisher
- Suggested reviewers
- Page or reprint fees are included (if required)
The details may be tedious, but the more you pay attention to them, the more it will pay off for you!
